What it would be like if I answered the questions posed by songwriters, part one
Gigglewick talks to Hunters and Collectors' top ten single, 'Do You See What I See?'
*****
Do you see what I see?
No.
Do you see what I see?
No.
Do you see what I see?
No.
Do you see what I see?
No.
I see the safest place around, in that city down below.
Oh. Why didn’t you say so? I can see THAT.
My hands are empty now and I’m waving as I go
Fine. Be like that then.

Oh, I needed that giggle GW. Have you seen Dylan Moran's stand up show 'Monster'? His textual analysis of the 'Funk Soul Brother' is pure comedic gold. search youtube for 'dylan moran' + Monster for the whole show.
I love that you (a) thought this up and (b) posted it.
Absolute gold.
I have been waiting years to find out what 'the story' is. Please post without delay, although not too early, as I need a little time to wake up, wake up.
Nai,
I must have been subconsciously channeling DM, because I did see that show (although see anecdote below for the genesis of this particular to-and-fro).
INCraig,
It was born of my sister and I spending many hours in the car as children...
There is just the perfect gap in that song for a petulant "no" to be added, particularly if you are trying to make a point about your parents' choice of music in the car.
I once found myself in conversation with Mark Seymour. I did not tell him that story.
Phishez,
It is indeed one of the more annoying songs, particularly when it is stuck in your head as it has been mine for the last five days.
